ID-NET SUCCESSFUL OVER FIRST SEVERAL MONTHS
(10/31/2006) NEW HAVEN – Chief Francisco Ortiz, Jr. has released statistics for the first several months of deployment of the Information Directed-Neighborhood Enforcement Team (ID-NET). The purpose of the unit, which is under the direction of Lieutenant Peter Reichard, is to direct patrols to areas of the city where crime patterns and trends appear.
Since its inception on 26 February 2006 through 1 October, the 28 officers assigned to ID-NET have issued 3,536 motor vehicle infractions, 999 motor vehicle misdemeanors and 2,036 motor vehicle warnings, and have made 187 infraction arrests. In addition, they have towed 826 vehicles and issued 558 parking tags. Officers also have made 418 warrant arrests and 695 criminal arrests and have conducted 2,513 field interviews.
“The effect that ID-NET has had on New Haven has been extremely positive,” said Chief Ortiz. “Their use of real-time crime analysis and computer mapping puts them right at the heart of the issues in our community.”
